The gold American Eagle is one of the most popular gold bullion coins because its gold content
is guaranteed by the United States government. Like
the South African Krugerrand, the
American Eagle is a 22 karat gold coin meaning it contains 1 troy ounce of gold content but also
some additional alloy to prevent scratching and denting of the coin. Gold in its pure 24 karat
form is a soft metal and susceptible to damage. (Update to this article: After you're done reading
this article, make sure to check out huge pictures of my personal
2005 Gold American Eagle coin.)
Gold In Multiple Flavors
I really like the American Eagle because it's readily available at most coin shops and comes in
a variety of sizes. More so than any other gold coin, it's always easy to find the eagle in one
ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, and 1/10 ounce varieties. I truly believe in the value of
diversification
and a great way to do this is to own a variety of gold bullion coin sizes. As the
price of gold
appreciates, the once ounce coins are going to be out of reach for many individuals.
Consequently, I expect the 1/10 ounce and 1/4 ounce coins to hold a strong premium versus the other
varieties.
A Great Looking Coin
The two most popular 22 karat gold coins are the South African Krugerrand and the American Eagle.
The Krugerrand trades for a lower premium over the price of gold. I definitely like the Krugerrand
for this very reason however cannot deny the beauty of the American Eagle. The eagle is such a
great looking coin that I definitely recommend it for all gold bullion coin portfolios. Interested

I just purchased a pristine condition
2005 Gold American Eagle coin.
I'm super happy with my purchase because older date gold coins often come with a few scratches and
dents. I'm used to it and it's ok. However, I was shocked to see this coin at my local coin shop because
of its flawless condition. I'm all about perfection in my gold coins and make sure to check out pictures
