Depicted in the image to the left are one ounce Mexican silver coins. I really like Mexican gold and silver coins. They are some of the best looking coins out there and are a really fun way to diversify you gold and silver coin investment portfolio. Instead of buying American Silver Eagles or Canadian Silver Maple Leafs, Mexican Silver Onzas make a terrific alternate silver investment. In my opinion, Mexican coins are a lot neater than their American and Canadian counterparts, mostly because they are less common and I have seen fewer of them.
Mexican Silver Coins Are Less Common
Mexican silver coins are harder to find than their American and Canadian counterparts and are definitely worth picking up if you see them at your local coin shop. You don't only want to buy them because they're great looking but also because your investment is likely to appreciate a bit quicker due to its rarity. (This is where investing in bullion can cross the line into numismatics a little bit.) As a general practice, it's fun to buy some "exotic" bullion coins once you have your core portfolio of the standard bullion coins. The Mexican Onzas definitely qualify as a less standard silver bullion coin but one that's great to have in your portfolio. The greatest thing that can happen is you buy a coin as a bullion investment at face value of its metal content (with a slight dealer markup) and then it turns out to emerge as a numismatic investment as time progresses. The best way to take advantage of this opportunity is to diversify you silver bullion portfolio with a variety of different coins, including some less standard coins.
Taking A Closer Look At These Silver Coins
Looking at the coins in more detail, the front (obverse) says "Casa De Moneda De Mexico" and has the date, 1980. The back (reverse) says "Una Onza Troy De Plata Pura" and also has the weight in grams. The reverse has a really neat picture of a scale. One of the great parts of investing in silver bullion is the opportunity to hold a tangible investment. Making the investing experience even more fun is accumulating a variety of different great looking coins such as these Mexican Onzas. Good luck in building up your silver bullion investment portfolio.
