As you may know, I'm a huge fan of copper bullion. While this site is primarily about gold
(as the name implies), I've also had a great deal of fun collecting and reviewing copper bullion stores. There are many ways to obtain copper bullion
including pre-1982 copper pennies, wheat pennies from
Pennies.com, and copper bars from
Jetco Minting and
Tacoma Copper. Today, I'm adding another interesting review to the mix. I'm reviewing
a copper bullion mint that shows up toward the top of the page on Google when you search for copper bullion: The Metal Mint.
June, 2009 News Flash: The Metal Mint Is Officially Closed
As a new update to this article, The Metal Mint is unfortunately closed. They will be fulfilling all orders that have been made but are not taking any new
orders. If you're still interested in purchasing copper, brass, silver, and stainless steel bullion bars from The Metal Mint, I suggest checking eBay for
secondary auctions of their products and also The Copper Cave. Alternately,
I highly suggest some of the other copper producers out there such as Jetco and Tacoma Copper which are all really awesome. I'm personally very sorry to see The Metal Mint
go because I love their copper bars. However, I'm still really excited that there are many other alternatives out there in this growing bullion industry. I'm
leaving the rest of this article as it originally appeared below so you can learn about my personal experience buying copper from The Metal Mint, however
a lot of it will be out of date since The Metal Mint's website and eBay store are no longer working.
Joining The Small Universe of Copper Bullion Companies
As you may already know, I'm a huge fan (and customer) of Jetco Minting and Tacoma Copper. These are both great places to buy copper bars. As a collector of
unique and interesting copper bars, I'm always scanning eBay and the Google search results for new copper stores. A few months ago I discovered The Metal Mint
towards the top of the Google search results and knew I had to try them out. It's so much fun operating this website, what a great excuse to buy more copper
bars!
The Metal Mint's Product Lineup
The Metal Mint sells several copper bullion bars on eBay and their website right now. All bars are smaller including 5 ounce, 0.5 lbs, 1.0 lbs, and 1.1 lbs
copper bullion bars. All of their bars are a similar rectangular shape with rounded edges length-wise with a shiny surface. It's nice to hoard small
denominations of copper bullion bars because these make the perfect emergency stash (in addition to a really great collectible or gift). Keep an eye on their
eBay Store because they sometimes offer bars there that are not on their website. For example, at the time of this article, their eBay store has a 2.2 lbs
copper bar not available on their website.
In addition to copper bars, I must also highlight that The Metal Mint offers (or plans to offer) other metals also. Their website has categories for bronze,
stainless steel, silver, and brass bullion. How neat! While most of these categories are currently empty (the site says coming soon), the stainless steel one has
a really amazing tin bullion bar. I have not seen tin bullion anywhere else and I highly recommend checking them out. I'm personally seriously
considering the tin bullion bar for my own collection.
My Personal Experience Ordering From The Metal Mint
I had a wonderful experience ordering a 5 ounce copper bullion bar from The Metal Mint. I placed my order about two weeks ago, ordering directly from their
website with the PayPal checkout option. They also take all major credit cards and support Google checkout. My 5 ounce bar only cost $5. This is the cheapest
copper bullion product I have ordered online so far. (Hey, the economy is bad so I'm trying to expand my collection while not spending too much money!) The shipping was
$3.50 for a total cost of $8.50. My copper bar arrived within a week (this was an astonishingly fast shipping time) and was very well packaged. Not only did it come
in a hard cardboard envelope but it also has a really neat foam sleeve around the bar. My suggestion: Keep the foam sleeve, what a great way to store and preserve
your copper bar.
My bar says The Metal Mint 2008 on the front in addition to Copper, 5 ounces, .999 fine, the serial number, and USA. The fact that it has the year and serial
number makes it a great collectible over the years. The bar is rounded on the long edges and flat on the short edges. The finish is shiny, but not mirror-like.
Overall, I could not be more pleased with my purchase and I know I will be back for more. It's fun to be able to get something so neat for such a low price. If
you're new to copper bullion and just getting your feet wet, this is a great place to start. It's cheap and you'll get a great quality bar! I give The Metal
Mint my endorsement and urge you to check them out.
Recently, I also purchased brass bullion and
stainless steel bullion from The Metal Mint. As always, my experience was great. I'm honored
that they sent me the first bar (serial number 00001) for both of these bars. I highly recommend checking out my images and information about these bars, they
are too good to pass up! I know I will be ordering more in the future.
Is It Time To Buy Copper Bullion?
My personal opinion is a resounding yes! The price of copper, as you may know, has fallen quite a bit, as have most other precious and base metals. Gold is hanging
in there fairly well, but silver, platinum, and palladium are all down a lot. I personally see a future of inflation and feel that this is a super time to take
advantage of the depressed price of copper and load up. Of course, I'm not an investment advisor and I'm not giving advice, just my personal opinion. Please
check out The Metal Mint. I had a great experience ordering from them and I can't wait to see their product lineup expand
even more.
My 1 Kilo Copper Bullion Bar From The Metal Mint
As a new update to this article, I just purchased a 1 kilo copper bar
from The Metal Mint. I'm very excited about this bar and have created a new page with
pictures of my one kilo copper bar from The Metal Mint. Check it out!
Moreover, I just uploaded a copper video that showcases my 1 kilo copper bar from The Metal Mint,
in addition to my Jetco bars.
