I'm on a roll here at Gold Why! Not only am I expanding my gold coin collection quickly, but I'm also adding new, fresh content to Gold Why
at an amazing pace. Just after talking about my fractional silver coins
one week ago, today I'm thrilled to talk about my brand new Gibraltar Dog Gold Coin. Check out the picture to the left (and the others
throughout this article). As you can see, my new purchase features a cocker spaniel on the reverse and it's a simply amazing coin! I'm a big dog lover
so the opportunity to collect 24 karat gold bullion coins that feature dogs is this gold bug's dream.
My First 1/25 Ounce Gold Coin
As you may recall, I'm a huge fan of fractional gold coins. I own all different types
of gold coins including 1 ounce, 1/2 ounce, 1/4 ounce, 1/10 ounce, and even 1/20 ounce coins. I recently wrote all about my small
1/20 ounce maple leaf. Another favorite is my 1/10 ounce
lunar series gold coin. Well, my new Gibraltar coin takes the concept of
fractional to a whole new level! My 1992 Gibraltar Cocker Spaniel Gold Coin is 1/25 ounces of pure 24 karat gold bullion - How cool is that!
I have never really seen 1/25 ounce gold coins before so when I saw this one I just had to pick it up. With the
price of gold skyrocketing, my desire to buy coins that are
easy to hide, and my huge passion for collecting different types
of gold coins, this Gibraltar Gold Coin (produced by the Pobjoy mint) made perfect sense for me!

You may remember I recently discussed my Cat Gold Coin from the Isle of
Man. Specifically, I purchased an amazing 24 karat 1/10 ounce Scottish Fold Cat Gold Coin from 2000. I'm a huge fan of these Isle of Man gold coins
because they date all the way back to 1988 and offer a different cat on the coin each and every year! The mint that produces these amazing Cat Gold
Coins for the Isle of Man - The Pobjoy Mint - also produces the Dog Gold Coins (like the one featured in this article) for Gibraltar. Since
I'm such a huge fan of the Cat Gold Coins, I immediately fell in love with the Dog Gold Coins from the Pobjoy Mint. This special series of dog gold
coins ran between 1991 and 1997 and offers all the cool benefits of collecting the Isle of Man Cat Gold Coins. The dogs are different each year, the
coins are offered in a variety of unique sizes including 1/5 and 1/25 varieties, and the coins are definitely off the beaten path. Whether you are
already a cat coin collector (and are looking for something new) or are new to the Pobjoy Mint in general, I highly recommend these gold coins.
Some Closing Thoughts Gibraltar Dog Gold Coins
I'm a huge fan of Gibraltar Dog Gold Coins and recommend you buy at least one. If you're a smaller gold coin collector like myself, the 1/25 ounce
variety will definitely be in reach. Why am I such a fan? It really comes down to the following points. First, the coins are off the beaten path
so their collectible appeal is a lot higher than a more standard coin like a Gold Eagle.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Gold Eagles, but it's just so much fun to diversify. Second, these coins make great gifts. I love giving the gift of
coins because they're an investment that maintains (and appreciates in value). What better way to introduce someone to the beauty of gold coins than
to give them a gold coin with a dog on it? Most people like dogs, after all! Third, as mentioned earlier, these coins are super easy to store and hide.
1/25 Ounces of gold bullion is a really small coin. You can get a flavor of that in some of the pictures in this article. In comparison to my hand
and fingers this coin is miniscule. Last, I absolutely love the luster of pure 24 karat gold. The Pobjoy Mint Dog Gold Coins are pure 24 karat gold.
So you're convinced and want to buy one of these amazing coins... Where can you find them? Well, there are many great gold coin stores online, but I
personally purchased mine from River City Coins. River City is quickly becoming
one of my favorite coin stores of all time. Owner Mike Sprouse is full of information and truly gives his shoppers the level of personal attention they
deserve. More than anything, Mike is a fan of perfection. My Gibraltar Dog Gold Coins, as you can see in the pictures, came inside its original plastic
sleeve from the Pobjoy Mint and then is inside another plastic sleeve with information about the coin. My closing advice: Only buy Dog Gold Coins that
come in the original plastic sleeve (sealed all the way around) from the Pobjoy Mint! Thanks so much for reading!
